Actually it's a house, an old homestead in British Columbia's Nicola Valley. My watercolour teacher has a fondness for these and I'm hooked as well. When we make a "mistake" we joke in class that we can always turn it into a winter scene – it's nothing that a little snow can't cover up. This one however, has obvious spring colours, past the point of snow:

You have Arrived!!! This painting is great. Did your teacher do this or you? If it is you, you are there. However, where is the dog with a scarf and a pattern on that scarf. Where is the sleigh with the horses? A few more of these with Popular Icons like horses, skiers, Dogs, Cats, Kids, Vintage Cars, SHEEP, a Holiday Tree with a STAR and lights and you are ready to open your own Art Show and make money! The Trees are Fabulous and the whole winter feel is there. You get an A plus for this painting. Keep going… you are Fabulous at this! I like your trees and this painting MORE than Mrs. Butterfield’s. Your HOMEWORK for the next month is to practice, sleighs, sleds, SHEEP AND HOLIDAY TREES with Stars AND FLEUR DE LIS AND MANY OF THEM. Google stars AND FLEUR DE LIS so you can see the MANY Patterns and Styles that appeal to you. How about a painting with the THREE KINGS and a HUGE STAR? Congratulations you are THE ARTIST!

How about a painting with Angels. The Barn needs animals in it. It makes me sad to see it empty. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything else.

I’ve been thinking about this painting. Maybe, if you want to, you can make like ten copies of this painting at a professional printer on watercolor paper. Then, you can paint something different in each one. For example, One could be this scene with some Red Cardinals and a non red Cardinal in this scene some where. Another, could be an open barn with musical instruments in it, like guitars leaning up against a barrel, a drum set, maybe microphones. They could be acoustic, electric guitars OR just a few guitars and a drum set. The list is endless. What makes me like a painting is when there is some kind of ACTION in it. For example, a boat sailing on a lake or some kids tobogganing down the hill, Slieigh Bells Ringing as a Sleigh is about to depart. Maybe people making stained glass items in the barn and having the stain glass colors be very vivid. Whatever. Good night, Li.

Maybe on one of your professional copies, you might draw a cross on top in the form of an Antique cupola with a large metal cross on it. You could add shutters in a bright color and antique hardware on the shutters to hold them in place in high winds and antique door handles, etc. Maybe you can put a Canadian and an American Flag on the greenway above it with some Holiday tress around the flag poles. Another idea is to make it a make/shift hospital from another ERA with a large RED CROSS on the western facing side of the Barn. You can draw a likeness of your daughter, the nurse, in an antique uniform. What do you think?

Today in third grade I was teaching the kids about the Sequoia Trees in California. I put a whole bunch of images on the Extra Large Computer Screen of Sequoia Trees. They would make a great subject to paint in the future.
