Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

Thank goodness I'm over that bout of illness. I thought, in the past, that I might have had food poisoning. I know now that I didn't. And I hope I never have to experience it again. Thanks to you all for the get well and birthday wishes.

When sick, and unable to avail yourself of homemade chicken soup, I think North America is divided into two camps when it comes to salty noodly soup. I am a Campbell's person. My kids are all Lipton's. Recently I have discovered Campbell's "Homestyle" chicken noodle soup – less chicken (don't ask me how they can pack any less chicken into that can and still call it chicken noodle soup) and more noodles, the short skinny kind found in Lipton's. Where do you fall?

I managed pitifully few rows of knitting over the past week, but I do have a knitting related picture, from a recent walk on our nearby seawall. A yarn bomb:

Happy Birthday (belated) and glad you are feeling better.I’m
from the north east, and when ill I loved Mrs. Grass’s Chicken
Noodle soup. I had to have that little golden egg you drop into
the pot. LOL. Living in the south now, we don’t have Mrs’s G’s
soup here, it makes me so sad, so I go for Liptons, it’s the closest match. Stay well, have a great week. 🙂

Happy Belated Birthday. I used to like the little packets of Liptons, not sure why I stopped using that when I had soup. I know I used to add the little alphabet noodles to it. I just had soup over the weekend due to a cold and I had Campbells Select Harvest. It just didn’t seem as good as when I got hooked on it last year.
    Interesting yarn bomb.

Actually, neither. I can’t take canned soups because of the high sodium levels. I was a Campbell’s Tomato Soup with Bologna Sandwich kind of girl. Now I treat myself to that very rarely. And it has to be made with butter and milk, not diluted with water. Glad you are better, continue to get well.

How do you know if it’s food poisoning or not? Glad you are all better! Only home made chicken soup here . I can’t stomach canned or enveloped soup 😛

If the season is cold weather I prepare with homemade chicken soup.
four to eight pieces of chicken (thighs, legs with the bone in) one to three quarts of water, five to eight large- carrots; sea salt to taste. Wow YUM it is so good. Low boil till done. (use less water if you only use four chicken thighs or legs.)Make rice or noodles on the side to put in each cup or bowl and then ladle the hot soup over the top of the rice, noodles or fresh raw spinach.
*Add what ever veggies you like in addition (while cooking): cauliflower, string beans, peas, corn, or … ?
Cook the soup down to strengthen the chicken flavor. (cook till liquid is less and soup flavor is stronger) If salt is not a problem add more salt to flavor to taste. Make sure your chicken is done next to the bone.(no red blood coming from the bone.)
For over biscuits, potatoes or meat.
**This can also be used for gravy (thicken with flour – 2 tablespoons flour to one cup of cold broth, or one Tbl. cornstarch 1 cup broth – stir or whisk well till smooth, pour into heated broth while stirring, simmer till it thickens, keep stirring (add more flour to cold liquid if it doesn’t thicken enough)
For Gravy the flavor of your broth should be stronger. (consider the addition of the flour mixture that may weaken the flavor – if using water and flour instead of homemade broth and flour)
