Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

First things first. A couple of you asked for a picture of a banana slug and as they are colourful creatures they will be included in this post:

Bananaslugs

Yukk, eh?

And considering the comments from my Noro review, many of us are in it for the colour. We're willing to sacrifice a bit of softness, putting up with straw and fluff, all for the sake of a colourfest. Here's my colourfest du jour:

This pattern is designed for use with Wollmeise, but have never been lucky enough to find yarn in stock on their website. I covet Wollmeise, but not enough to succomb to the sin of excessive spending or stoop to nasty e-bay sniping. A survey of the stash produced just enough Mountain Colours Barefoot in two different dyelots:

Reminds me of our sunset from the other night:

Gracee likes colour, too:

I remember having an out-of-state friend visiting one time and she saw a regular slug. She said, “It’s huge!” I replied, “It’s only a baby.” The sunset picture is beautiful. I think I even know what night it was. We can’t see the sunset from our house (too many trees – although we can see the sunrise), but the air actually turned pink, so I knew it was a good one.

My sister used to race slugs as a park interpreter at Cultus Lake. Love the Mountain Colours. Never seen Woolmeise in person, but I adore the Barefoot. Give me colour.

Wollmeise’s not that expensive if you buy it straight from the store — under $25 for 575 yards of fingering weight.
There’s a bit of a swap group in Vancouver as well — several of us stalk the updates and have managed quite a collection. Happy to enable you into some of our hauls!

Oh thanks for the slug picture! I’m happy with them in the forest, not so much in the flowers here.
Yikes, I just did an ebay search for wollmeise. That is just nuts that people will pay that much for sock yarn. It’s nice, but not THAT nice.

I think the slugs are cool! But then my mother raised me to like all slimy things, she’s a bit odd, although show me a grasshopper and I’ll run screaming in the opposite direction.
