Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

Everyone has their rant. Some longer than others. Popular blog rant themes include teachers, spouses, political figures, and family members. I do my best to stay away from too much negativity but, I too, have my favourite rant – customer service.

Long story short: went to buy two chairs at Macy's and asked about the delivery charge.

"$80."

"Forget it," I say, "we have a truck and can pick it up."

"$25."

"What? No, we want to pick it up."

"Yes, that's the pick up fee, we have to get it here from the warehouse."

"How about you sell me the floor model that's already here."

"Can't do that."

So, if you want to buy furniture at Macy's furniture store, there is a charge to buy anything, regardless of pickup or delivery. Seems like the price should be adjusted to include the ability to take it away from the store without paying for the priviledge. It would feel better that way.

So we left Macy's and went to a nearby scratch and dent store and bought the same chairs with a couple of minor dings. We saved over a hundred bucks and it included the ability to take them with us.

End of rant.

Okay that’s ridiculous! Companies think they can charge for everything. My sister owns a small printing business (well with her husband) they have an invitation company they place orders with. To palce an order for napkins, they charged them 40 cents to take the order. Not to process the order, but just to take the order. Its ridiculous! If I could get everyone in my office to give me 40 cents everytime give me work to do, I’d be rich!

That $25 is crazy! They should absorb that fee or at least be smart enough to include it in the price since they would have to get it to their store anyway. Things like this never used to be the norm. So sad. It’s like service charges…you’re charging me for providing the phone or cable service? Isn’t that what I’m paying for in the first place? Glad that you didn’t buy them from Macy’s. Way to hold your ground!

I hope you thumbed your nose at Macy’s while letting them know you got what you wanted elsewhere for less.

I kind of like rants – and this is a good one! I certainly won’t be buying any furniture from Macy’s!

Oh my, that’s horrible. When we purchased our 52 inch flat panel TV, the now dead Circuit City wanted to charge us $100 to get the TV from one branch to the one we were at, since they didn’t have any in stock. We drove to the branch that had them and they delivered for free.

Oh, I am not a fan of those fees-because-we-can fees. I tend to go straight to the top and ask for the reason for the fee… normally it gets waived. Like my favorite one: online bill pay for my credit card company was down, I called customer service to make the payment: $30 charge to make a payment through a human. I asked for supervisor after supervisor until I ended up talking to someone who “got it” and waived the fee.

That reminds me, you owe me $25.00 (US) for not helping you deliver your furniture.

I came over because I would really like to have the pattern for your herringbone scarf.
I’m so glad I did it today. I haven’t been to Macy’s since they took over Hecht’s – no reason, just haven’t been. I see now that there’s a very good reason to continue not going there. This is as ridiculous as that $2 fee for ordering a pizza. Not the delivery charge (that the poor drivers don’t even get apparently); this is above & beyond. So we’ve quit paying for the privilege of ordering pizza. I make it at home now.

Hello, I love the rant too. I’m a ranter. But I’m after the pattern for the herringbone rib scarf. Thanks in advance. Elspeth
