Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

I work for a social service agency located in a shopping mall. It's good for the clients, accessibility-wise and bad for the employees spending-wise. A mall is like a little city and all that comes with it. Monday there was a fire, necessitating a two hour evacuation. Tuesday there was a flood. We were betting on Wednesday. Cue the locusts.

Managing a social service agency involves looking after funding equating to 28 employee's jobs and  contributing to a workplace that encourages good mental health practices. Other than knitting, my personal coping skill involves food and the mall has a food court. Need I say more? I allow myself the indulgence of stress induced eating, several times per year.

So this week, with a fire and a flood, we're managing over $100,000 in funding cuts. And I ate poutine. The epitome of Canadian junk food, fries with melted stringy cheese and brown gravy. Yumm. And I sought comfort in another Little Girl's Shrug:

Stick to the knitting , ditch the poutine. Number One, it looks really gross and number two, it sounds like a curse word in Puerto Rican !!!

Love the little shrug. Too cute. I do need to buy that pattern. I know all about the stressed induced eating. Chocolate got me through September but it’s not loving my waist line at all.

Cute shrug. And really, I know very few people who don’t cope with stress by eating…there is this one girl, she stops eating…I always thought she was a little crazy cuz of that.

Very cute shrug. I could never work in a mall for the very reason of the food court. Its bad enough working in a downtown area with lots of options, but fortunately the park for walking is closer then the food, so exercise is winning out these days.

I’m one of those nuts who can’t eat when I’m stressed. I eat when I’m happy–the happier I am, the more I eat! I’m not sure whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing that I love my life so much…

I guess I’m just a crazy American who can’t understand poutine. Maybe I would really like it if I tried it, but it just sounds so crazy! Now Tim Horton’s – that’s another story! Canadians do have some good ideas sometimes.

Hopefully you had some knitting with you during the evacuations.
    I just don’t think I could handle poutine…

Oh dear, the dreaded budget cuts! SO STRESSFUL!
It’s weird because to me (whose relatives are Acadian type of Canadians) Poutines are potato balls with pork in the middle. YUM. I love them and don’t have them much.
I wonder why it refers to 2 different foods..Mystery!
    Love the shrug!

My love language is Food. My stress antidote is Food. My happy celebration is Food. I never met a cheeto that didn’t make me feel happy. Sweet little shrug…looks good enough to eat!

Chocolate is such a dependable drug. I also rely on my walking to keep my brain cleansed. Love the shrug. Have you seen the one in the Weekend IK?
I think you forgot pustulent sores and earthquakes.

Hello! I’d love to get the Herringbone Rib scarf pattern.
I remember the year I worked at a museum in a shopping mall. A real museum, yes. I had all my holiday shopping done before (USA) Thanksgiving that year!
