A Happy Ending

It's done and I'm happy with it. It's different making a comfort/prayer blanket for someone you don't know, as it was a request from a special acquaintance. I did know this – it was made for a young man who experienced similar losses to my own at similar ages. So I did the best I could, knitting into it reflections on loss, resilience and good hopes for his future.

Soon it will join the Free and Easy Pie Wedge Shawl that I made for his sister.

The details:

Pattern: the Bob Blankie by Mags Kandis

Yarn: James C. Brett Marble Chunky two skeins each of two colourways.

Finished size: 45×58 excluding the fringe.

If I were to make one again I'd do the braids as I go. I didn't do that in the first half and encountered some unravelled frustration. I reflected on that, too 😉

    It looks exactly right for a young man! It turned out lovely. I like Marbles yarn, might even try the chunky version some day.

    It looks so tranquil, I know it will bring peace and comfort. So, the ends are braided? Like a hair braid?

    It turned out great. I agree with the braiding as you go. On the baby blanket in Mission 1824, I had a few not-so-nice verbal outbursts. I would definitely along the way next time.

    What a wonderful comfort. Did you use those humongous balls or the smaller balls of Marble? I have seen them on Ravelry for Lady Eleanor, but I think you’d have to change her name to something less elegant, like Madge or Gladys.

    Knowing these folks or not, I know they will be touched by the fact that someone would spend that amount of time and compassion thinking of them. Sometimes those unexpected bits of love from strangers can have the greatest effect. And it looks lovely to boot! Nice work.

    I just love that blanket, it reminds me of a very comfortable blanket tha tyou wrap up in a cold day. I’m sure it will bring much comfort to its recipient.
