Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

Pattern: Free and Easy Pie Wedge Shawl – from the 2005 Knitting Pattern a Day calendar and on the ball band of Helen's Lace yarn.

Yarn: Fleece Artist Baby Curls (discontinued).

Needles: Size 9 US

Impressions: Three weeks of stress free knitting from start to finish. That is until I stretched the too tight cast on edge and heard a pop:

Technical stuff: Thinking I had taken every precaution, casting on loosely over two needles, it was still too tight. I took a deep breath and treated the edge as a provisional cast on using E. Zimmerman's fool proof sewn bind off and voila, a perfect edge, matching the sewn bind off on the other side. It worked out so well that I've used a provisional cast on for the second one.

The rest of the story: This was made in response to a prayer shawl request. It's a perfect pattern, given to me by a mom who had made one for her daughter. The recipient will be a daughter who has lost both her mom and dad, as well as her good friend. It's light as angel wings with the colour of the rainbow.

That’s beautiful and I’m glad you were able to fix that edge problem. I’m sure that the recipient will love it and I hope it brings her comfort.

How absolutely wonderful. I love the look of it and the love put into it for a special person who really needs to know she is wrapped in angel’s wings. 🙂

That is so beautiful. I can imagine it will give great comfort to the recipient. That yarn is so lovely – after your last post I went looking forward and found that is was discontinued. Too bad!

Oh Li, that’s almost ethereal – it looks like it could fly away all by itself. What a lovely gift, especially given the love and prayer in each stitch.

I made this shawl a couple of years ago and, while I’ve made other shawls since, the pie shawl is the only one I actually used. I’ve been tempted to make another in pastels and seeing yours makes me want to do it sooner rather than later.

This is so incredibly beautiful. I was looking for like a picture or something of Rainbow Angel Wings wrapped around someone as a visual for meditation but to actually be able to wrap something around you that is so much like rainbow Angel wings would be so comforting. Would I be able to get the instructions? I don’t know if I can do it but I will certainly try.
