Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

Thirty plus years in the field of mental health/social services has influenced the way I spend by time off. I love my job, but as much as possible, I leave work at work. My family knows that I don't watch movies with social service-y plots – no addiction, child abuse, depressing themes, no loud family dysfunction thinly veiled as comedy. Examples of my kind of quirky movie include Elizabethtown (thank you, Sandy), the British film Room to Rent and Woody (on Prozac) Allen's Everyone Says I Love You. Contrary to usual practice this weekend we watched Thomas McCarthy's the Visitor. Although immigration issues are the central theme, it includes an uplifting story of friendship.

My other exception was a mild deviation from my New Year's resolution to give up table salt. Three weeks past my cold turkey abandonment of my favourite flavour on earth, it's been unexpectedly easy. I splurged, though, with a salty snack:

How do you eat your Chex Mix? I exhibit my best OCD behaviour, saving the best for last, segregating the wheat Chex until the end.

In my house, if you don’t eat your favourites first, you’ll be left with the pretzels!

Ha,Marina, I LOVE pretzels, they are all mine, nobody else wants them! :o) But if I eat a mix, I keep the best for last as well. I don’t watch depression, violent and all of the above. So there’s not a lot to watch on TV for me. Don’t you think eating less salt, makes you notice the real flavor of the food you eat more? We are not strict, but we used to eat eggs only with lots of salt. Now we find, if we make an ham omelette, the salt in the ham is more than enough for everything.

I eat two things with each bite. Mixing it up and eating two different things each time. Just like with candy bits, M&M’s and Skittles. When eating those I have to eat two different colors with each bite. And if I end up with 2 colors the same in the last bite, it freaks me out!

Wheat checks are my fave as well! I think it is because I feel they are the “healthiest” part of the mix and I feel virtuous eating them…

I agree that the movies you watch and the books you read (and especially the TV you choose) make a difference in your life. I can’t read the “medical” stories in magazines because of the false information and the total lack of nursing information. I don’t like the fear they put into people.
I agree that precocious children and dysfunctional families are a poor kind of humour.

OH! Wheat chex are MY favorite too! I eat them first though. Get them eaten, then the corn chex (remember when they used to have peanuts in it? I miss those), maybe a pretzel or two and then I leave it for others! haha

As I was eating my cheese chex mix last night I started with the least salty cheeseyist pieces and saved the most loaded ones for last! YUMMY!

I don’t think I have ever tried Chex mix. No, I am not kidding.

You LIKE the Wheat Chex?! You’re the only person I’ve ever, ever met who will eat them! We finally stopped putting them in, after multiple batches that ended up as a bag of discarded Wheat Chex. We always put in extra Cheerios; they soak up the seasonings the best. 😉

I thought Wheat Chex were everyone’s favorites! I think it’s because they soak up all the butter and Worcestershire sauce – and salt. I’m afraid I do eat them first so no one else will get them.
