Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

I saw that on a bumper sticker today. File this under "Life's not necessarily fair." It's not that I'm a total heathen who can't put this into some sort of perspective, but give me permission to emote. Please?

All I can do is put this in point form:

  • 18 months ago, in preparation of our 25th anniversary, C&I booked "the trip of a lifetime," a combination of an amazing deal, three weeks, and ten friends.
  • We have cancellation insurance. Can you see what's coming?

Screw the points here's the Reader's Digest version. Chuck had been diagnosed with a detached retina (there were some unnecessary complications socialized medical system wise) requiring emergency surgery and the inability to travel for many weeks.  We'll know more tomorrow. Lots of scenarios circulating – how about two weeks of lying on one's side 23 hours a day?

And the three year old fridge died.

And we had an encounter with another bear in the yard today in broad daylight. Do these animals never sleep?

We've had lots of meaningful conversation and made some important decisions with the knowledge that decisions are never final.

I predict lots of knitting/crocheting ahead. It's growing fast and furiously:

A woman in my knitting group had a detached retina last year and I know she spent weeks lying down. I hope that’s not the case with Chuck. I’m so sorry about your trip.

Well poop! That’s all I can say. I can sense your extreme disappointment and I don’t blame you! Poor Chuck – this can’t be too much fun for him.

Li: It is disappointing but you do have the trip insurance. That was true foresight to get that. You will schedule another trip with your friends somewhere else. Betsy and Dick went through the eye surgery deal with Dick having to lie on his stomach hours and hours a day. While she went out to walk the dog she forgot she had grilled cheese in the toaster oven because she ran into a neighbor and started blabbing. The grilled cheese started to burn and Dick was yelling for Betsy because he couldn’t move. The neighbor’s husband came into visit Dick and turned off the toaster oven.
There are plenty of other cruises you will get to go on and I am sure your friends will join you. Club Med has 70 percent off sometimes if you book two weeks or a week last minute.
Best wishes for a healthy and speedy recovery to Chuck. Once his eye heals he can do some woodworking again.
Get Chuck some clay and maybe he can do some sculpture while he has to lie down for 23 hours a day. Make lemonade out of the lemons.

Bummer about the trip. I always cringe when I book airplane tickets for any reason. We have had to cancel several trips due to various events.

Seriously, life just sucks sometimes. But in the big picture of things, we really don’t have control over much, then, do we?

Well with the money you save from Chuck not going you can order a new Fridge and have it delivered while you enjoy your crusie with your friends. Hope Chuck has a quick and smooth reecovery!

I’m so sad, for us and for you guys.
Can a person knit while lying on one’s stomach?

Thinking of you as you figure out how to go through this. It will require as much patience as knitting. Hope you have a trip in the future to look forward to.

Oh dear – I hope everything works out. Thank goodness for cancellation insurance on the monetary front, but to paraphrase a mastercard commercial – “a trip of a lifetime with 10 great friends….priceless!” I’m sure missing out on it is a big disappointment. I hope Chuck’s recovery goes well.

That is a gorgeous crocheted piece. Sorry to hear about your husband. I know how hard it can be to deal with illnesses, surgeries, etc. Hang in there. Oh, and also, it really sucks how, when it rains, it pours. I feel your pain. But, maybe there is extra knitting time in there. That’s a bonus:)
