Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

If you're a reader from British Columbia you'll be able to decipher those letters as belonging to the Pacific National Exhibition, our urban version of a state fair, summer's last hurrah. It occurs at the end of the season, usually in rainy BC weather, smells like mini donuts, sounds like excited Hell-a-vator induced shrieks, and feels crowded.

In my family we each have our favourite section, none located near the other. Chuck likes the work horses, Bryant the Super Dogs and I'm a sucker for the chamois, rubber mops and Pink Solution; assorted items hawked by people wearing mini microphone systems, loud promises to make my life easier. There's nothing like a Cutco knife and then the realization that I paid for parking and an entrance fee for shopping in disguise. I AM a sucker, but a happy one especially when chopping onions with my dishwasher safe Double D blades.

Knitting content: Blogless Marsha reminded me that I haven't posted a more recent picture of the Mitered Square Baby Blanket. It's been on Ravelry for a few days, but I neglected to update it on the blog:

I might just have to have another baby so I can get me one of those BEAUTIFUL baby blankets. Only kdding on the baby part! Would a puppy count? The Deerfield fair is next weekend here in NH and I finally figured out that we just go to eat the fried dough, sausage and peppers and the fries with vingar . Oh yeah and to take in all the great smells like the mini donuts cooking. YUMMY!

Beautiful! I used to sell Cutco knives way back when. I have my salesman set and it is still sharp as ever 10 years later. They may be pricey and annoying to buy but they are so worth it.

Wow, where did you find your needful yarn? I’ve used their merino for socks (to die for soft; reinforced heels) – have heard the company went out of business 😦 If you’ve got a source could you let me know? TY.

The blanket is lovely! Just makes you want to snuggle up in it. I had to laugh about the sales – that’s my favorite part of a fair too!

I have a lot of weird PNE stories – like once when we drove in from Surrey (where we lived at the time) there was a barenaked man in the grassy median waving his business around for everyone to see…

Hi! I saw a pattern of yours on Sandy’s knitting website and was wondering if I could get it from you. It’s a herringbone rib scarf that she did in a cranberry color. This is the link to her picture: http://www.sandysknitting.com/archives/001244.html
    Thank you so much!

My favorite part about the Buchanan County State Fair (where I grew up in Iowa) was the cow barn. I just love cows.
Love that baby blanket, I’m working on my first mitered square project currently, and can’t believe I haven’t done anything with them before, they are fun!
I need a baby blanket too, maybe I’ll make one of those!

My favourite part used to be the buildings that housed the crafts. Beautiful displays of needlework, knitting, even the preserves. (Also a good way to escape the occasional PNE rainshower). It’s just not the same since those buildings were taken down. The mini donuts still give us reason to keep going back though 😉
Love the baby blanket, the colours are very pretty.

Love the baby blanket! I still have the Ginzu knives we bought at the PNE in ’88. Knit Knackers in Ottawa has a bunch of Needful Cotton Joy and other Needful yarn.

Ahhh, the PNE! Living here for most of my life I get nostalgic when it’s PNE time. I regret that it seems to get smaller and smaller every year (remember when there were 3 food halls! Tons of exhibitors!) And those Superdogs! They just make me smile!
Your blanket is gorgeous! I’ll have to try something like that!

And I love that yarn. Cotton blends work really well down here in the Sunshine State and those colors are so pretty. I googled to see if I could find more of that brand, but looks like it’s not available now… unless you know of a source??

What a colorful and beautiful baby blanket! I would make one, but I don’t know of any babies who could use one.
Would you please send me the Herringbone Rib Scarf pattern? I have seen pictures on various sites, and all are pretty. Thank you.

Also, as Needful is out of business, do you know a source to buy any of their stock?
