Norma recently posted about those sugar coated jelly candies shaped like orange slices. You know the ones? Must be menopause or recent stress, I don't usually have much of a sweet tooth, but they sure looked tempting.

The candy of my childhood, I've written about it before. I remember my dad taking me to the barber, who would give me whole packages of Chuckles, and back then Chuckles were huge. Or was I just small? He would lay claim on the black one and I the red. Going to the movies, my mother would buy us a bag of spearmint leaves, green candies of the same consistency. I loved how they felt on my tongue. Or at the department store candy counter (remember those, the ones with the nuts kept warm under lights), that's where we would get those candy fruit slices, the ones that looked like watermelon slices. I chose the cherry ones, but it seems today the red ones are raspberry.

Forget the Hershey Bars, give me Mike and Ikes. Or Hot Tamales, the super hot ones. Or Fuzzy Peaches. Red Twizzlers. Better still, although chocolate is not my #1 favourite, red Twizzlers dipped in chocolate; to die for. Enough.

Here's some knitting candy, my Toronto acquisitions:

A skein of Seasilk and seven of Jojoland Melody. One skein into the JJ I decided to send the rest back. It looks and feels tempting, but the actual knitting is scratchy and splitty. It was worth the $9 in postage to maintain my knitting sanity.

How about Bonamo Turkish taffy, the red licorice rolls that i used to prentend to have a lizard tongue or circus peanuts? The list could go on and on. Go to this link http://shop.crackerbarrel.com and check out the candy section. You will go back in time!

I loved fruit slices as a kid. The red ones and the orange ones were my favorites.

Oh no, don’t tell me that! I have two batches of the JJ to use.
Candy? Brach’s hard candy balls. Not sure what the real name is. Brach’s Mated Milk Balls. Brach’s Butterscotch! No other substitutes will suffice!

Pretty harsh on the stash inclusion. It must be dreadful. I fondly remember Pink Elephant Popcorn.

I like the Melody yarn, but just for socks, it’s really too scratchy for other things. Well, I don’t mind it with my shawl either, but I’m not wearing it, just looking at it. ;o)

Those fruit slices are nasty. I was a strange kid – I loved black licorice. Black JujyFruits, Good & Plenty, Licorice Wheels, and the bestest candy of all – grape Now n’Laters.

Will you send me a copy of the herringbone scarf pattern?
PS: My “childhood” candy was the tombo rice candy – the one where you had to eat the paper. I loved the candy, and there was a TOY that always came with it! I loved it!

When I was really little (like 7) I loved Bit O Honey, but we had a friend who used to bring it to me so often I got sick of it and can’t even look at the stuff now. As a kid I loved pixie sticks and buttons. As I got older I prefer chocolate and gummy bears!
    And that seasilk looks gorgeous!

The seasilk is YUM! What colorway is it?
And if you have a moment, please send me a copy of the herringbone rib pattern? Thanks!

Thanks reminding me of the department store candy counters. Haven’t thought of — or seen one — in years! Wonder when they went away. Eched in my memory is the smell of popcorn when we entered Sears and the sight of marshmallowy things covered in toasted coconut. We didn’t get to buy anything there but later when I worked at a department store, I would sometimes buy a box of chocolates. Haven’t seen those in department stores in years either.

Thanks for the JJ tip. I’ve considered ordering some any number of times.
I have a huge sweet tooth, and now I’m wondering who sells those orange slices around here.

Life’s way too short to knit with yarn you don’t like. Now the Seasilk, if you don’t like that, just send it on to me. 😉
Oh candy! My favorite are the hard shell coated malted milk easter eggs, you know, the “robin’s eggs”. I just love those. And my mom always made us give her all the red m&m’s out of the bag. I think of her every single time I eat m&m’s.

Candy lipstick…candy lipstick…candy lipstick. I’ve yet to find the candy lipstick I so remember from my childhood. The lipstick was dark pink semi-hard sugar candy. It was wrapped 3/4 of its length in gold paper and over wrapped with cellophane. What I enjoyed about it was that toothsome bite of hard and then sticky meltyness. Today I settle for Smarties.
