Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

What’s missing from this picture? Look carefully, this is our driveway in the middle of the night:

What’s missing? Here’s the story:

Last night, back pain, tossing and turning watching the clock: midnight, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00. You know how that goes? 3:20 – I hear an engine idling in the driveway. Must be the paper delivery. Wait a minute, the paper guy zooms in, tosses the paper and zooms out. Sounds like a big vehicle in the driveway. I get out of bed and look out the window and what do I see? Our new-to-us since last Thursday little red pickup truck being driven out of the driveway and up the hill.

Called the police, and as we wait for their arrival it hits me. Where is our car that was parked behind the truck? Two cars are missing in that picture above.

Long story short: The car was hiding across the street in the bushes minus its radio. After a visit from the sniff dog and the fingerprint team, we are told that the truck was recovered parked nicely just up the hill, across from another broken into car, but no luck in finding the creeps that did it. They must have spotted me, watching from the window, and fled.

Scary, eh? And da noive of ’em, thinking every car in every driveway is fair game. Eff that.

That really burns. Hope your vehicles are otherwise OK and they catch the creeps. Do you think it was juveniles? We had problems some years ago with kids breaking into cars and stealing things, but not taking the vehicles. What a feeling of violation.

YIKES! Where was your guard dog GRACIE at the time? Sleeping on the job I see. Good to hear your cars were not trashed!

That just creeps me out! It seems like such a violation. But I’m glad it was only the cars and not a home burglary. Maybe you need to get a Doberman to keep Gracie company. I’m sure my dogs would not only invite burglars in, but offer to show them where the family silver is stashed. Well, if we actually had any family silver.

That is very creeepy… But I have an even creepier car theft story. I used to live in a condo and our cars are parked directly across from each other. We came home one evening and when I parked, we noticed the door to the jeep was wide open. We looked inside and checked around (thank goodness hubby was with me) and then went upstairs to file a report with the police, call the insurance folks, and call a tow company to move the jeep (the thief had wrecked the steering column thus making a key useless). We went back downstairs to wait for the tow truck and gasp – the jeep was GONE! The thief was in the parking garage the whole time! Hubby took off up the ramp, I ran upstairs to call the police and tell them the jeep was gone. They never caught the guy who stole it. The jeep was found abandoned a few towns over with 2 parking tickets plastered to the windshield.

Creepy indeed. And I’m glad someone else has totally useless dogs. Ours, like Dorothy’s, would only be interested in showing the burglar where the treat container is stored.

How bizarre! At least it wasn’t a disembodied appendage that had gain intelligence and took off with your vehicle. 😉

That just enrages me! We keep our cars in the garage, but one night our garage was broken into and burglarized–while we were all home, asleep! We ended up having to get a new garage door and a new opener, and now we lock out our garage door every night. But we shouldn’t have to go to such lengths, just to thwart other people’s misbehavior.

Wow…that sucks. At least the cars were recovered in somewhat decent condition. My step-brother’s truck got stolen, and it was totally trashed when he got it back.
I’m really looking forward to getting on the road and not having to do any housework!
