Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

How does toothpaste know it's night time? I recently bought a pack of
toothpaste and found one tube was labeled for daytime use and the other for
nighttime. I read the ingredient list and they were identical. Being the
rebel I am I reversed the recommended regimen and my teeth don't seem
confused.

Questions from everyday life – someone's got to think about these things.

Everyday life for us this coming weekend includes graduations, Mari with her degree in Astronomy and Physics from the University of Victoria, and Bryant from high school. The former, although demanding, requiring hard work and extreme effort, is a definite. The latter looks as though it will happen after all.

Mr. Bry has not had it easy going through the traditional curriculum; his creativity challenging even his art teacher. A thank you to those teachers who believed in him, particularly the one who sent home a special message today, leaving these parents dewy eyed. Seriously. There have been some others who understand him and have appreciated his talents, but this was a message directed to the mom and dad, knowing that life has not always been a stitch with this student. This teacher looked back and acknowledged in writing, our boy as a wonderful student, polite, talented, respectful and very helpful. He expressed pride in having him as a member of the graduating class. Thanks to you, and to the principal who reinforced his words.

SIL Grethe, in MN has established a family tradition of crocheting afghans for the high school grads. Here is Bryant receiving his:

The difference in night time toothpaste and daytime is that after you use the night time you don’t eat or drink anything so that way whatever is in it can do it’s work and not be washd away. You know knitting, I know teeth. Congratulations to Bryant and Mari. The Toumpas family is very proud of you both!

Congratulations to all, including the proud parents! I’ve never blogged about this because my son reads my blog, but he also marched to a different drummer. He has nearly a genius IQ, but was a very mediocre student. Graduation was never a worry, but he went on to get a C in college in Computer Science 101. The kid had been programming computers since he was 12 years old and could have taught the class!! We worried because he seemed lazy and totally unmotivated! It was just a matter of finding the right path for him. Once he did, he became an extremely successful computer programmer, working for the likes of Blarclay’s bank in London. So have faith Mom! Bryant will find his path too – sounds like he is a great kid!

I just received 2 skeins of Manos silk blend. While searching around on ravelry I came across you herringbone scarf. I would love to have a copy of the pattern. I think my colorway would work beautifully with it.
    Thanks

Congrats to you all! My oldest son is graduating from high school later today, too. It was (almost) a foregone conclusion that he would, but is still a relief to have it confirmed. As for his much-younger brother, welllll, first we have to get him through summer school (after 6th grade, required for him to get in to 7th). Sigh.
    Enjoy your weekend!

Such a special success. It can’t be easy for your kids to have a rebel for a mom. I stand behind my kids’ individuality, too. Who knows where it will take them?

Congratulations to the graduates. Mine are coming into their own too. Jamie is on the executive board of his frat and spending time doing community service with the special olymipics and other charities. He also had a great paying summer job taking our neighbors kids to their activities and filling in for a babysitter who quit. He coaches them both in softball and basketball. Patrick is waitnig to hear if he got a paying internship with the Stamford Symphony. There are 3 applicants for 2 openings. He apparently is into classical music in addition to the rock n, roll his Mom likes. He came to appreciate classical music at Manhattanville
College. Well hopefully you will return my call one of these weeks. I’ve been out kayaking and loving it. Rosie
