Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

Back to the subject of going home, over the years I’ve had recurring dreams of the house in which I grew up. I understand in the world of dream interpreters, it’s not about the house at all. It’s really about your youthful body. In one of the dreams my house underwent a total renovation. Yes!

Here’s a question. Outside the home in which my niece and nephew are being raised, the home they will dream about in middle age as various body parts head south, grows this vine. Their mom, my sister, would appreciate an ID. A local master gardener is stymied. The vine is located in New Hampshire:

Contrary to infrequent reporting on this blog, I am participating in knitterly activities. Ravelry has eaten up a fair amount of discretionary time this past week. And this: my mother had good intentions of knitting herself a vest. Finding herself less able to knit, she gifted me with her yarn. I convinced her to give me her pattern as well and I’m almost done with the vest. All the knitting she has done for my family over the years, it’s the least I can do. Here is her vest, the pattern is the Jam Trim Fleece Vest from Knit One Crochet Too, using only one yarn – Artful Yarns’ Broadway.

Could it be a type of sweet pea?
The vest looks soft and warm; may your mom wear it in good health.

I am putting up a prize for anyone who can indenify this vine for me. It has been in my garden for 6 years now. I say it flew in with the wind but a master gardener at the Canterbury Shaker Village ( who by the way can not idenify it either!) says it probaly was in another pot of a plant I bought at a nursery at some point. Also my other the idea is it was dropped from the “Mother Ship” passing over the sky’s one night. It has a really gross oder to it. I say it smells like an old lady purfume. Li said it smelled like an OLD LADY! She is right! The prize for the correct I.D. is a Pampered Chef product. So lets get a move on this. Thanks for the help!

Your postings on going home were kind of bittersweet for me. We moved so much and my parents have continued to do so into their late 70’s. Anyway, we moved so much that there really is no one town that I can call home. MFB on the other hand definitely can go home – I’ve always envied him for that. But, even though I don’t have a town or a house that says home, my family is one that wherever the family is that is “family”. So we look at it that way because we have to. A trip back to South Dakota last year for a family reunion definitely brought back tastes and memories or childhood, even though I never lived there – but visited often. We all have out different cherished memories, and we’re all blessed by that.

I spent at least an hour on Ravelry today updating my projects. Yeah, it’s a time-sucker, but I think once I get everything on it’s going to be a big help. Just seeing my wip’s out there will, I think, help restrain me (ya think?). Anyway, it’s huge fun. I think I’ll go check out your page.

Wow, beautiful vest and yarn. Wish I could help you with that vine, it’s gorgeous. I don’t have a clue, though.

That vine looks vaguely familiar but I’m no help IDing it.

Could it be some type of wisteria? Are the stems woody, at all? If that’s already been considered, it does look like some sort of pea (wisteria is a member of that family). Try searching through this: http://plants.usda.gov/java/stateSearch?searchTxt=Fabaceae&searchType=Family&stateSelect=33&searchOrder=1&imageField.x=78&imageField.y=9 🙂

I forwarded your plant challenge to my mother who is a plant expert and never one to be stymied.
I love your mom’s vest and it looks better to me in a single yarn.

Sorry. The best I can do is say that it looks like a vine that grows in Jamaica.
The vest is lovely and looks very soft and warm. I’m sure your mother will love it. (And it’s very sweet of you–this is one of those times I wish I had a daughter.)

Sounds like you had a wonderful time, and going back always makes you smile…I have to admit that when I went back to California after nearly ten years of being gone, the In ‘n Out burgers had never tasted so good as they did that trip. Though after another ten years they might taste even better…lol.
