Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

We’ve all survived, hopefully all a little wiser. Three things I’ve learned this week:

1. You can’t beat the support you get in blogland. Thank you to all for your reassurance and good advice. My favourite explanation for teen boys’ behaviour is that testosterone is a neurotoxin and that their brains are swimming in it.

2. I use extreme stress as an opportunity to eat things that normally never pass my lips – popcorn, chocolate, tuxedo cake, and the best? Cobbs lemon tarts. You Aussies and Vancouverites know what I’m talking about.

3. You know what they say about having a child later in life will keep you young? They lie.

I’m looking forward to a promising Saturday with Blogless Marsha in Edgemont Village. What’s on the agenda? A half spa day and visits to Urban Yarns and Cobbs. I’m not done with those lemon tarts.

Here’s the FO photo I didn’t get to post, the narrow version of Midwest Moonlight. I need advice – how do you get cotton to stay flat post bocking? I’ve even ironed it. Starch, maybe? I’m wondering if it’s because I tried to block it with straight edges when it’s supposed to have points along the way.

The scarf is lovely. Chocolate, sweets, yarn, spa services – you do whatever it takes to get you through the stressful times!

Between you and Jane (http://quiddity.typepad.com/quiddity/) I’m going to have to cast on the Midwest Moonlight scarf.

Yum – lemon tarts of any kind sound great. Where do I find them next time I’m up in Vancouver? No advice on the cotton here either – I have the same problem with alpaca. But scarf is lovely even if the edges are rolling. I think you deserve a spa day after your son’s little escapade!

Li that scarf is gorgeous. I don’t know anything about the cotton issue. I hope he’s healing well and that you have some relaxing time this weekend. (Is that clematis as a backdrop to the scarf?)

Tunisian Crochet makes a beutiful stitch. The scarf you started in Fleece Artist is especially pretty.

Thanks for setting us straight about children late in life, since I’m slowly coming to that same realization myself.
As for the cotton, well personally, I guess I’m a bit of a knitting anarchist, because unless the item is lace (which tends to retain the effects of blocking for a while), I really don’t see much point in blocking. I mean for most knit items, I find that they quickly relax back to their natural unblocked tendencies once worn, unless you want to wear it lying flat all day (just joking). I’ll block for photos, but after that if it’s not lace I don’t really bother. I suppose if you really want it to take hold on the cotton, you could try a bit of starch.

You deserve a lovely day of decadence. I love the butter tarts at Cobbs too. Mmmm…butter tarts. You’ve got me drooling over here.
Oh what a bad day that must have been. I read your last post, been out of the loop for a bit.
A very good friend of mine lives in the edgemont area. I got her hooked on Urban Yarns, and she got me hooked on Delaney’s (nice coffee place in the area).
    Have fun!
