In anticipation of his birthday, my boy has decided he doesn’t want to turn 17. After discussion we agreed we could pretend, for now, that he is still 16. It reminded me of a friend from way back, whose daughter was eleven, and asked her mom when she would get breasts. Seizing this teachable moment my friend explained to her daughter that first she would probably grow some pubic and underarm hair. "Yukk!"  exclaimed her pre-teen in disgust, "It’s gross, it sounds funny when you scratch it, and if I get any of that I’m shaving it off."

When I was a kid all I wanted to do was grow up so I could eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. The thing I wanted to eat daily was cantaloupe, followed by butter lettuce with olive oil and salt, and then chocolate cake, not necessarily with icing. In college, my roommate and I were a good match, she liked the frosting, I liked the cake, and we’d trade off my icing for her cake. The same held true for oreos – I ate the cookies and she ate the cream.

Food has a scary influence in my life. I’m beginning to believe, however, that yarn is taking over. Funny thing how both, for me, require a well developed adult sense of self control. I’ll let you know how successful that sense is when I come home from my weekend at the Seattle Knitting Expo. I could be like a kid in a candy shop after selling a substantial part of my stash at our yarn swap last week.

A member of our Chicks With Sticks group, who was at the swap, is seeking to purchase an out-of -print magazine. If you have: Piecework issue Sept/Oct 1994, and are willing to part with it for a price, please let me know.

I guess there’s no big deal about the 17th, 19th & 20th years but surely, he’ll want to be 18 and 21? I know I couldn’t wait for those but it’s all downhill (and going fast!) after that 😉
Oh boy! I can’t wait to see what you bring home!

I’ve no need to sell unwanted stash any longer. I’ve created a monster. My daughter is kindly taking all the yarn I push her way! YourPOW shawl is looking good! How do you like working with Sea Silk?

I’m a cake, but no frosting girl too, but as of late, the frosting has been pretty yummy too. The scarf is lovely.

Li: How lovely the oatmeal scarf is with the colorful edging. That would look gorgeous with turquois beads.
My open house was cancelled due to really bad weather, heavy rains and 50 mile per hour winds. My diet is working I am down about 7 lbs so far. Did you get my e-mail re Saratoga.

(Chuckle). When I was twelve-going-on-thirteen (and the youngest of five kids), my mother told me that I could either stay 12 for another year, or turn 14 a year early, but she wasn’t having any more 13-year-olds in the house. Taking a page from her book, I decided several years ago to just stay 29.

I decided when I was 45 I would think I was actually 46 so this year when I turned 49 I thought I was 50 but to my surprise I have a whole extra year before the big Five-0 ! I think that was my Polish side of the brain that thought that one up. hee! hee! Tell Bryant HAPPY BIRTHDY from his New Hampshire family and he can stay 16 as long as he wants.

The stole is turning into a work of art – such a beautiful color choice.
If I had it all to do over again, 16 probably isn’t the age I’d want to stay. Maybe 32.

We used to call our older son Peter Pan. When he turned 18, we had to force him to get his driver’s license! Can’t wait to see the shawl blocked out. It’s going to be gorgeous. Also can’t wait to see your new stash – and you KNOW there will be some. Have a great time.

I’m drooling over your shawl! I’m a few projects from starting mine.
I miss my room mate from Nursing school. She would eat all the fruit creams from the chocolates box. Such symbiosis.

My son is not that thrilled with growing up either. He liked turning 14, but hasn’t really been enjoying a lot of the other changes. Moody, forgetful, foggy, among other things.
I am about as addicted to coke and salty things as to yarn, but the junk food is cheaper and doesn’t stick around long enough to accumulate. It takes very little to get me to buy more yarn though.

Your shawl is very pretty. I recently finished a pair of socks in the Sea Wool. Lovely stuff.
