Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

If you know me you know that I don’t make purchases without first knowing from where the money will come. Ms Practicality here never carries a credit card balance. So what I’ve done, in my books, is really bad. A total act of greed and comfort. OK, so here’s the story. I was at Costco last weekend, and you know how Costco is, if you see something you want you have to scoop it up or it may not be there next time. Even if you take it home, their return policy is pretty good. The other thing you need to know is that I have some problems with back pain from a previous injury. Long story, no details necessary.

So, while I’m at Costco I see people with wonderful facial expressions and accompanying vocalizations, trying out a massage chair, appropriately dubbed the I-Joy. It’s a very basic model, ugly velour, not leather, manual recline, not electric. Even without these accoutrements, it’s seeming to do the trick. And it’s 25% less than the same one at Linen’s and Things. I was on my best behaviour and left without it.

Well, wouldn’t you know it, my back pain kicked into full gear this week. I HAD to have that I-Joy. Just couldn’t live without it. Went to Costco and there was ONE left. Was that a sign or what? So there you have it. I’m the proud owner of one and boy is it wonderful. Bryant’s first question – "Will you be able to knit in it, mom?" The best of both worlds. I’ll figure out how to pay for it later. Meanwhile, Lady E is not giving me a hard time about it:

Yarn Yenta is having a blog contest. You have to answer these questions:

1. Where is your favorite knitting spot? I thought it was the wing chair in my living room. May have to change it to the IJoy.
2. If you suddenly could never knit again (shudder) – what would you do instead? Read more.
3. If you could travel anywhere in the world – where would you go and why? Australia and New Zealand because I’ve never been and to visit old friends.
4. When you were little – What did you want to do "when you grew up?"  Art teacher. Are you doing it? Nope.
5. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Peach.

Hmm – a chair named I-Joy sounds pretty decadent to me! Of course, now we expect all kinds of knitted goodies flying off your needles because you’ll be sitting and knitting all day. It does look pretty comfy. I’d better keep away from Costco!

Oh looks lovely, sometimes you just have to have something no matter what the sacrifice. Besides in the long run, it’ll probably save you in medical csots. (See I can work out anything to sound good)

It doess’t matter what the fabric on the IJoy is, she is beautiful with the wool teasingly draped over her.

Li, They had the same type of thing for sale on QVC and/or Shop NBC. I was $49.99 plus shipping. I almost bought it. It is still probably on their website. I am going to Montreal for 5 days with Tony (no kids) from Nov. 16 to Nov. 21. We have free nights at the Ritz Carlton so it will be fun to see the place as I have never been. All of the warm climate choices were filled.

The I-Joy…wow…what a chair…I am totally jealous! Sick boy is going back to school today, I’m going back to the gym, and then I’m knitting! And son’t worry…the money for the chair will turn up.

I have a question for you…when reading a chart for knitting, how do you read it?
Do I go left to right, right to left, or back and forth? Seems like I would go right to left, since I knit right to left, but what the heck do I know! Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated…thanks

I would not look at this purchase as “frivolous” at all!! Why honey, this was for medicinal purposes only!!! Do NOT worry about the credit card charge either…..I believe one chair on a credit card still qualifies you for a debt “odditiy” if this is all you owe!! I say ENJOY!!!!

When I had my last hair appointment, while my color was processing, I was given the luxury of sitting in one of the new pedicure chairs which had a total back massage. I have a bad back as well, and I have craved that chair ever since. I”m happy your frivolity was sensible!
