My health insurance contributes $300 to the price of new glasses every two years. Four years ago that covered the total cost of my progressive lenses in decent frames. Two years ago, it covered all but $126. Now, buying comparable frames and lenses I could end up paying over $200! What’s with this? Do the suppliers recognize that many people have insurance coverage and up their prices accordingly? Is the insurance industry not keeping up with the true cost of eyewear?

The same seems to be happening with my dental bills. It  might have something to do with the fact that my dentist moved to Gucci new waterfront offices with a view of the seals playing in the harbour. Come to think of it, only the staff benefits from the view, as all I can see is the ceiling.

Img_0095Sometimes cutting corners to save money backfires. Here is my Touch Me scarf. I tried to economize by buying four balls of the yarn instead of five, even though it was on sale. My gauge seems to be right on, but the finished product will be way short. Maybe my cables are tighter than most. Funny for a loose woman knittingwise. I called the shop where I bought it and they’re completely out. So the choice is to wait for another shipment and hope the dyelot is close or go with the shorter scarf. Stay tuned. The good thing about Touch Me is that it’s weighty enough to stay in place, so a short scarf is OK. Just think how much I could have saved if I had bought it all on sale to begin with.

Thanks for the well wishes regarding my headaches. I’m going to keep a calendar because I’m sure they are hormonally related. When is my meno going to pause?

OMG!! ROFLMFAO!! It’s the truth about the insurance and glasses, though…gotta love it. I am sure that the ins. companies are getting their’s on the backend of the deal, too.

I think insurance is a false sense of security….makes you go in to the doc/dentist, etc. more often because you have false sense of financial help called insurance! Dental insurance $ 75 month good feeling you are covered, one filling removal and crown knowing you have insurance, GREAT filling, receiving a bill from your ins. company stating they only covered $ 34 of your $600 PLUS freakin bill???? TOTAL RIP OFF! New Philosophy: Take your monthly ins. payment, stick it in a jar in your back yard…chances are when you need to use it you’ll actually have money left over!! This ends todays public service announcement! Hmmm…..maybe this hostility I am harboring means my meno is starting to pause?????? I’m looking for a brick wall for it to slam into!!! LOL!!! Sorry about the yarn issue….hopefully the new yarn will be the same dyelot!!!

We have neither dental insurance nor eye glass insurance. It’s all out of pocket, so we have to plan accordingly.
Your scarf is very pretty. I love that shade of red.

LI, I am so jealous that you are knitting with Touch Me….I touched it and it touched me, but I couldn’t part with the $75 it would have cost me to buy the yarn at full price! Isn’t it just wonderful?

Could you send me the Herringbone Rib pattern, please? I’ve been looking for a wide-but-not-bulky rib pattern for a sweater and this might be it… or I might just knit a scarf. I tried the My So Called Scarf pattern and found it terribly slow and actually not the best stitch to show off a yarn.
I love your photo of the bride shaving her legs in the car park: she seems like a girl who will be able to cope with the realities of life 🙂

I always thought you were a loose woman (Ha!). My insurance doesn’t pay for glasses at all (just the exam) and even with non-designer frames, with progressive lenses they bump up against $400! But I justify that with the fact that I wear them almost every waking minute. Hope you figure out the headaches. At almost 57 I gave up waiting for meno to pause and attacked it viciously with hormones! I figure the minor risks are worth the quality of life issues.
