Someone’s got to think about these things

About 25 years ago we saw an amazing comedy act, but I can’t remember her name, only that she was a young black woman who was tremendously funny. She did a routine about the odd things that pop into our minds and she closed each thought with the phrase "someone’s got to think about these things." She talked about a study that showed that the first thing women noticed when they saw a man was their eyes. After a pause she noted "Not me, I’ve GOT eyes."

Someone’s got to think about these things.

Ok, so I was thinking about the person who has the job naming colours for different companies, Crayola for example. Or Mountain Colors yarn. They have Bitterroot Rainbow, Crazy Woman and Lost Trail as names for their colourways.There is an English paint company and their colours have names like "Dead salmon." Just who names these colours and how did they get the job?

Someone’s got to think about these things.

The thing I’m ~~obsessing~~ thinking about is my return to work scheduled for later this week. I really thought I’d be farther along in my recovery. Still on crutches, still can’t drive, but I’m finally getting over five hours of sleep in total per night. I know it will be fine, but I’m still obsessing.

Here’s some comfort, a completed angora feather and fan scarf in plain old black.

There was a discussion a long while back about who names yarn colors and who names the patterns and why they choose what they choose. Rock Chick at the time declared she was renaming everything she made to sound like cosmetic names. I really like “dead salmon” and I had a skein of koigu once that I thought could have been called “early stages of compost” (uh you know, in a good way.) Opi has great names for their nail polish-“I’m not really a waitress” is the perfect shade of red.
I wonder how you get that job. Also, I wonder who does the artwork for tissue boxes. Someone has to think about these things.

I love the Mountain Colors names, probably because I’m from “near” Montana and recognize some of the names. Bitteroot is a valley or even a mountain range. My favorite name is Flathead Cherry. Flathead is a lake and cherries grow in the area. My family used to get a jar of Flathead Cherries every year from friends who have a home on Flathead–the cherries are awesome!

And, just who decides when a person should return to work after a surgery? How many times have the insurance people had the same surgery? Someone’s got to think about these things!

Hmm I don’t think I would care to have anything the color of dead salmon. Just cuz. I always like plain old black though. Goes with everything! And angora just makes it all the better. Yum!

Wow, another gorgeous scarf! Good luck getting back to work.
As for the names of things, I guess they’re hoping to be descriptive. With the “dead salmon”, I picture a peachy-pink color with grey undertones. Although I doubt I’d buy anything that was called dead salmon, you do remember the name.
