Nothing like a little nausea and pain to bring out the craving for comfort. I know I’m sick when I crave Campbells’s chicken noodle soup, pudding and bananas, apple muffins and tapioca. I worked on the entire list last week. And I know it’s really bad when I can’t stand the thought of Miss Vicky’s potato chips or Purdy’s cherry caramels. What sick foods appeal to you?

In my search for comfort, I was thinking about what yarn I should be knitting with and it’s definitely alpaca. Grignasco Top Print fulfills my need for softness and colour (thankfully, not as garish as they appear in the photo). Comfort came today in the form of my SIL Ellen, one of my knit addicted victims, and I, bundled up in a bedful of down, both knitting Misty Garden from Scarf Style. Her’s is in a mohair blend called Flamenco. This is her first venture into mohair and lace knitting – a double challenge project that was less than comforting for her:

Try as I might, I couldn’t come up with a list of comfort foods. When I’m sick, I bundle on the couch with my dog curled up next to me – that’s my comfort. But alpaca – ahhh! There’s comfort. I think it’s got to be my most favorite fiber (whoops – forgot you’re in Canada – fibre).

Homemade chicken soup–only thing is, I usually can’t predict when I will be sick, therefore, haven’t made soup ahead of time & who wants to make soup when they feel sick? Ginger ale, saltines, cut up apples, Campbell’s tomato soup, popsicles, jello w/bananas…I must be hungry. And like, Dorothy, I like one of my furry companions curled up next to me–dog or cat. Surgery, bah humbug! Recovery is the pits…love your alpaca! Very nice–knitting looks good.

Oooh – tapioca. Been ages since I had that. Definitely a comfort food. We used to call it fish eye pudding. Mostly, comfort food involves potatoes and cheese baked into a casserole of some sort.

Sick food? Malt-o-meal and Campbell’s tomato soup w/ milk instead of water added…not necessarily in the same sitting, and lots and lots of snuggly cat time

Best Wishes for a quick recovery. My favorite nausea food is from my pregnant days. Roast Beef sandwiches, wafer thin and warm with barbecue sauce? Who’d thunk it?
Thanks for the note about the Christmas issue!

When I am sick, as in tummy trouble, my number one favorite feel better food is cinnamon sugar toast! Made with white bread!! It always has been. Although now, it is frowned upon by my children as not healthy!!!!!!!!!!!
Mmmmmm, tapioca! I love tapioca. I could easily make a batch, and eat the whole thing all by myself. When my four kids were younger, I called it fish eggs, and they believed me for the longest time……..

My favorite foods when I don’t feel well are Lipton chicken noodle soup too and Saltine crackers. Lots of crackers.
