Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

Thank you all for your wonderful good wishes. At this point I can’t e-mail you all from bed, so please accept this blanket thanks for now. Blanket, bed, a drug induced pun!

It was a good experience due to the spinal. I got brave and watched the screen for the first hour and a quarter, but asked for drugs and the curtain before the screws went in. I don’t remember most of the last 20 minutes.

It hardly seems right that there are so many really sick people with serious problems in the hospital and I’m taking up space with something so mundane as a knee graft. And three cheers for the Canadian medical system, despite my prior comments, I hobbled out of there at the end of the day without having to pay one cent.

Chuck says to tell you that I can even turn a hospital experience into a knitting experience. To nurse Maureen, how’s that sweater working out? Chuck’s only concern right now is that he knows that the drugs will wear off.

Dsc01445_2 Here is part of my welcome home committee: that’s Betty, from Germany, working on one of her two projects.

Hi Li, I am so glad all went well with your knee surgery. Let me be the first to post my best wishes for a speedy and painless recovery. We have great medical coverage with an HMO. I only paid ten dollars for my surgery. I hope you rest easily and are up and running again soon.
    Love, Rosie

So happy the surgery went smoothly. Hope the recovery goes just as well. Perhaps now you’ll have time with that cardigan which shares my name? 😉

Glad it’s over and that things went well. I hope you have a very fast recovery, although my recommendation is to fake it once you’re feeling better and grab a little knitting time out of the whole deal!

    Glad you’re home Li!
Three cheers for the Canadian medical system is right. Yesterday I spent 2 hours on hold with our insurance company only to be told “Thank you for waiting, but our office is now closing for the day.” WTF? I miss the days of calling to retroactively get a CareCard. Sheesh!

Rest and recovery time ahead. Hope you can make it to knit night next week if you’re feeling up to it. I’ll gladly swing by and be your chauffer for the night.

I told you about my student who was back to school 3 days after ACL surgery (!) in Sept. and in much pain and with a giant leg contraption and crutches. When I saw him from afar one month later I nearly didn’t recognize him, he was moving around so well, crutch-free. And now he is still getting some PT but is otherwise back to normal. Hoping for the same for you!
