The countdown

First off, thanks to Kimberly for her RAOK card Weds morning. A really cute Motown Thanksgiving turkey singing a version of "I Will Survive." The song was in my head all day.

I’m travelling to Ottawa for work over the next week, with a stop in Edmonton to see Elina, and after I return, will have five days left in the office before my surgery! Yikes. I’m looking forward to the month off, but not the reason for it. I’m having an ACL graft, and MCL repair and a cartilage clean-up. The worst part for me will be relinquishing control over Christmas.

I’ll be posting on the road next week in between visits to yarn shops. Anybody have any recommendations for Ottawa yarn shops near downtown? I can’t think of a better way to deal with the pre-op nerves.

Wish me luck with Air Canada’s new no free meal policy (as if you didn’t pay for the meals in your ticket price). Now you can pay the same price for a ticket and pay extra for a choice of a sandwich or pizza; exact change only. 

Last weekend I didn’t spend money on yarn, but I managed to part with a few bucks on these:

    Continental only serves meals “at meal times,” which basically means unless you’re on a plane at noon or 5pm, you don’t get anything. Sometimes some pretzels, but that’s it. We always grab something at the airport. It’s just easier. I picked up Scarf Style this week too! Tons of great projects for convalescence.

    I was just emailing with someone else about Scarf Style – I wish the photos were better! The Midwest Moonlight scarf doesn’t appeal to me at all in the book, but when I see it knitted up in Blogland, it’s gorgeous. Go figure. How many others are fabulous that I’m bypassing because of non-informative photography?

    I would pack a lunch. When I flew with my two darling children we brought a ton of snacks, so we didn’t experience the airplane food firsthand. I did see it across the aisle and I thought it looked tiny and boring for the price.
    Scarf Style is an amazing book, I agree the photography is often too artsy to be informative – but there are so many photos of finished projects out there. I was a bit disappointed with wrap style.

    For me, relinquishing control over Xmas would be the positive side of the surgery! Buy yourself scads of wonderful yarns on your trip.

    Stock up on yarn and remember – knitting while on pain killers can be dicey business! Let me know how you like Janet Szabo’s book on finishing. I’ve been tempted several times, but haven’t yet bought it.
