Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

A pasta problem. Given:

  1. One family member is allergic to wheat.
  2. One is on a chronic variation of Atkins and doesn’t eat anything white (OK, you purists, I know there is no such thing as a variation to Atkins).
  3. Two won’t eat white clam sauce and one likes his pasta hot and naked (with olive oil and herbs).
  4. Two won’t touch whole wheat pasta.
  5. We are trying a sample of brown rice pasta.

Problem: How many pots were cooking on my stove tonight?

Answer: Six – one each for the rice, the rice pasta sample, the whole wheat pasta, the angel hair pasta, the red meat sauce and the white clam sauce. And then there were four different salad dressings and two kinds of Parmesan.

I must be crazy. Most people cook spaghetti for an easy meal.

But you know I like a challenge, so here is my progress on Marina’s ribbing, front and back:

Marina’s looking great. I’m not fond of doing corrugated ribbing, but I love the way it looks. I had to laugh at your mealtime problem. When we were visiting my son, we had this discussion almost every night. And I often have two kinds of rice going because I much prefer brown rice over white, but my husband’s not crazy about it!

Your Marina looks way too complicated for me. No wonder you are teaching a charlotte class. I think I would make sushi and tell them to fend for themselves. 🙂

The spaghetti story is so funny. In my house spaghetti is for the days when we want something easy.

Oh boy! You hit a note with me!!I often have too darn many pots on the stove because of diets and pickiness. The husband is on Atkins, I am on Rosedale, the middle son is on whatever the mood of the moment diet (which could be anything, as long as it is weird!),he can change his diet in the middle of the day, without notice;, and my youngest is super picky, even though he is far from a toddler. At least when my two oldest come to visit, they will eat anything and not complain.Oh yeah! I didn’t even mention all our allergies that fit into the picture. And the husband wonders why the dishes take over the kitchen on a daily basis…..

I know how you feel. That is what it is like in our household, too. My brother has it worse than I do, though. His daughter is allergic not only to wheat, but all things glutin (including most wheat substitutes and candy). Congrats on hanging in there though!
