Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

Thanks to Beth and Christine, I have a new section on my sidebar of buttons for blogs I read. Trouble is, they were OK when I initially put them on, but then several disappeared leaving funky little symbols in their place.  Through trial and error I rewrote the code for the links and now they look fine. I love defying the old saying about teaching an old dog who new tricks. I’ll keep working to get more buttons up as time permits.

Speaking of the quirks of cyber knitting, I have two new entries for the strangest google searches people have used to find my blog. Drum roll, please. I’m not sure which is stranger – one was "cushy tushy toilet seat" and the other "mouse turd photos."

Dsc00472 And speaking of drum rolls, here is the unveiling of the finished Fleece Artist Garter Stitch Cardigan apres felting. I need to figure out a closure. The pewter ones I bought are way to heavy. This is a very light weight jacket. I’m thinking of sewing on a trim of grey velvet ribbon and not using closures at all. It need something to finish it off. Suggestions appreciated.

What about some fabric-covered buttons? Or make some with a bobble-type stitch? Then crochet a chain for a loop? I agree it needs a little something but I love the idea of pewter closures. Wonder if they make light-weight plastic ones that would be painted to look like pewter? It’s beautiful and spring-y in any case! 🙂

You could also try a shawl pin. Patternworks has a couple (http://www.patternworks.com/PWShopping/partsview.asp?action=lookup&partno=300213&subject=U39&catpos=15). My LYS has some wooden ones as well. The sweater is beautiful.

Lovely sweater. By the way, what is felting? Is that like blocking? How about some a pretty scottie buttons in mother of pearl or in black plastic or bakelite. Look on the internet and search for scotty buttons or scotty sewing items. Love, Rosie

What a great jacket, Li! Nice fit, perfect color…best in show, dear! I love vintage buttons, so I would probably look for an unusual set. I think since it is a more subtle design and color, it could use some very funky buttons.
    Nice job!

I was doing a search for knitting terms like felting and found a great knitting website. Not that I knit. It is http://www.knittingMoms.com
There is also a site for Irish knitting patterns for fisherman knit sweaters. They have 500 Irish names with the exact cable knit for the sweater. (I already have two Irish knits.) They are under Clan Aran Sweaters. They also have patterns for Barbie clothes for the folks who want that.
    Love, Rosie

You could also use an Asian style frog fastener (or knit one).
