Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

What is with this Typepad wanting to underline and change my formatting this morning? Excuse the mess.

We’ve received the end of year statements from our variety of small retirement accounts. Each year we get closer we panic that there won’t be enough. I hear Chuck say "We could always bump off the kids." Shocked at this crass comment, I respond with disbelief. He repeats,"We can always bum off the kids." We’re not that close to retirement but our hearing is. I asked him if he tasted the pears I bought and he says "I didn’t know we had carrots." I’ve read that women lose the lower range of their hearing and men lose the higher making it difficult for the two to hear each other in their senior years. We’re doomed.

Progress on the mistaken rib Iceland scarf. I found a German website that had this yarn for half the price I paid for it. I’m looking forward to our trip there this summer. I also heard the Addi needles are $6 US! The angle of that picture makes me want to turn my head sideways:

I’m spending this weekend with two of my s-i-l’s who are here from Minnesota. What a great way to spend the last weekend in January, the weekend after my job’s yearly week from hell with multiple grant deadlines. One of them has asked me to teach her to knit; definitely a dream weekend.

Don’t you just love enabling … er, I mean teaching new people to knit?!? I do so every chance I get.
    Enjoy your weekend.

    Hi Li,
I had a good laugh while reading your post today. Just what I needed after a long week (actually month) of bathroom reno’s and looking for a new (to us) car to replace the one in our driveway that is no longer roadworthy. Very interesting that women and men lose hearing in different ranges. I have a theory about why some women might lose the lower range. I think its a matter of self preservation. If you sleep with a snorer, you have to be able to tune out the low rumbling drone if you want to sleep. Unfortunately, you lose the ability to hear base tones even in your waking hours. As to why men lose the ability to hear the higher tones, I won’t even guess. πŸ™‚
I’ve started on the manos scarf – sans manos. I was hoping to stop in at the shop in Steveston when I was in Richmond for my son’s soccer game two Sundays ago. But unfortunately, and I only say unfortunately because there was wool involved, the game was cancelled due to terrible field conditions. Under normal circumstances one Sunday without soccer or hockey is not a bad thing.
I’m using Lion Brand moonlight mohair and it’s coming along quite nicely. The stitches are much easier than I first thought, the only down side is the fact that the back side doesn’t look as good as the front.
Hope to see you in Feb. I’m thinking of signing up for a felting class if offered. The hats and bags look like interesting projects. So little time, so much to knit.
Have an enjoyable weekend with you relatives.

Great scarf but looks more grey than blue in that light. It looks like a cloudy, snowy day in Vancouver. I love that kind of wool as I’ve said so many times.
Is that really true about hearing as you get older or did you make that one up?????
Have a fabulous weekend with your sister-in-laws.
    Love, Rosie
