Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

I crack up sometimes when I read what people are searching for when they end up here. This week some readers arrived after googling: band saw massacre, little nipples, Pacific Northwest spiders, I am an acne pimple, the life cycle of a frog, and I love food. Here are my two favourites: someone arrived at Life’s A Stitch, a knitting blog, by searching for "what colour does breathalyser go if positive" and "who invented the potato powered clock." It makes me conscious of how I arrive at other’s sites. I’m sure my searches have left bloggers scratching their heads.

Dsc00077_2 Here in the Northwest, when it’s sunny it rains. Now when someone googles about Northwest weather they might arrive at a knitting blog.

I’ve had several questions about the definition of worming and the felting process with Touch Me. Here are the answers:

1. Definition of worming: Chenille, due to its construction, has a tendency for stitches to pop out. If you look at a flat piece of work, the wormed stitches look like little caterpillars. It’s almost as if the stitches unknit themselves. Very annoying.

2. I had seen examples of felted Touch Me items at two knit shops. The third place had never heard of it, but when I saw the suggestion in Sally Melville’s book I went for it. My worms were HUGE loops, just not acceptable. I put the scarf in a large lingerie bag, washed it in hot water AND put it in the dryer without the bag. It is a hard little lump after washing and the dryer turns it into a nice fabric. At one knit shop the woman actually boiled it, but I thought her colours looked faded and colour is part of the beauty of Touch Me. Go for it and let me know how it turned out.

my touch me scarf was the first i made out of sally’s book. Im on another one, w/ a cable thru it, from the scarf style book. I find w/the purl/knit pattern it worms less also. I love this yarn. so expensive though. this scarf is for my mother.

Hi- made a Touch Me scarf for myself to go inside the collar of a wee-bit-scratchy wool coat. Also had problems with the worming and was near heart-attack stage when I finally finished the scarf and saw the amount of worming. I did a simple basketweave pattern.
Nearly had that stroke when it came out of the washer. Small and hard does’t even begin to describe that lump coming out of the washing machine!! Ick!
But it came out lovely out of the dryer. All my worms did not disapper either and I am considering trying the washing treatment again but I was able to kind of “block” them out. I noticed that the wash/dry treatment also skewed the garment a bit.
I have a friend who made the pullover. It is – gasp! – so stunning that it is almost painful to look at it. But she too nearly expired at the cost – and she’s just a little bit of a thing. As an ample, I would need some sort of grant to make one for myself.

Li, I will never have to worry about Chenille worms but I am glad you defined them for me. Also, the newspaper said Blog was the most googled word in their dictionary. You may want to put the definition next to Blog on your website to make it easy for newcomers and for the uninformed.
I saw National Treasure staring Nicolas Cage last night with a teacher friend. It was awesome. Bryant and Chuck would love it. You might like it also and you cold still knit one of our easier projects during the movie. I will definitely buy the movie it when it comes out on DVD.
Tonight I am going to see a comedian with two coupled friends of mine. Tony is in Pittsburg on business. The woman is supposedly a “stitch” and makes fun of Greenwich, Connecticut values.
    Love, Rosie

Did you notice I accidentally typed “our” projects instead of your projects when describing your knitting. (It must be wishful thinking.) I also mistyped starred. Oh well.

Spot on with your comments on googling. I just can’t imagine how disappointed one person must have felt after googling the words PIN UP GIRL PHOTOS and landing in the middle of my knitting blog. And rest assured, I do not sport pin up girls there.
