Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

Scanning the blogs, there's some sentiment that there's not much knitting happening. Time to refocus. Easy enough, I had a dental appointment requiring some prophylactic stress treatment.

It's not that I don't like my dentist, we have a 25 year relationship and he's an admired professional. Believe it or not I used to look forward to my dental visits, a chance to kick back in a semi quiet atmosphere away from my reality of social service work and my family of three little ones. Although pleased with the ease of their work, his staff agreed I was one sick puppy.

Kids grown up, work devolved from hair raising direct service to the role of full time in-office professional money begger, the dental visit doesn't have the pull for me that it used to. Now, while lying back in the chair, between a mouthful of conflicting tickle and prick sensations, my eyes are closed and I'm thinking of knitting. It's the project above, another Free and Easy Pie Wedge Shawl. In laceweight, they can be scrunched into lightweight  scarves. This one is made of hand painted semi solid Zephyr. It's difficult to find hand painted semi solid laceweights, especially in tones of brown, so if you're interested, check out Beyond Basic Knits.

It's back to the dentist this afternoon. I think I'll knit a few more rows.

I agree, I love waiting at the doctor’s/dentist’s because its a few minutes of peace and cal where all I’m suppose to do is wait. And what better to do while waiting then knit. Of course my doctor’s have gotten into a bad habit of actually being early with their appointments and not late! I don’t think they read the doctor’s manual very well.

Love the pretty shades of brown. Despite the fact that I worked in a dental office for 24 years (or maybe because of it!), I’ve never liked visits to the dentist. My most recent experiences have only reinforced that. Another visit for me as well today – to have a permanent crown placed. But my dentist is always early – no waiting.

Very pretty! I am making a brown cardigan right now and am thinking of what else I have brown in the stash because I am enjoying it.
My dentist retired, I had been going there for over 25 years. I recently found a new dental office and hope this dentist doesn’t retire any time soon. She’s younger than me so that should work out fine.

I left my dentist of thirty years for someone who said she could actually fix my teeth. Five and a half hours (in two visits) and a bank loan later, we’ve finished the top; work on the bottom teeth starts next fall.
    ‘Any suggestions for Vancouver-trip knitting?

Hi, I would like a copy of the pattern for the Herringbone Rib Scarf, it’s gorgeous! I “found” it on Ravelry. Thank you!

I am calmed just by the picture of your (third?) wedge shawl. Now that the kids are driving, I only go to my dentist for my own visits and he never makes me wait: no knitting.

I understand looking forward to going to the doc, but I can’t get on board with the dentist. I think I’m one of those weirdos who can barely stand it when people touch their teeth…I’ll have to do a lot of prophylactic knitting before my next visit. 😉

You are very skillful at knitting! I love that shawl you’ve made.
Well, this just shows that knitting is a very effective way of diverting your dental anxieties. Good luck on your next visit!
