Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

Otherwise known in BC as the "dog’s breakfast" – just a mess of different things:

  • Look at how many of you supported Gracee in my last post with the cuteness defense! Did I mention that she once ate Chuck’s $1200 hearing aid? The upside of that one was that it was still within two weeks of his year long replacement for any reason warranty. He was informed that he was #10 that year with a dog chewed hearing aid.
  • That boy, who lives in our house, but has given his parents a break from his antics by accepting a job at a sleep-away camp as the "skateboard director" (can you imagine the ego that title reinforces?), added three stitches to his tally of over 40 this year. These were caused by introducing his chin to the cement while riding a BMX bike in the camp’s skateboard park.
  • Vacation time – this blog is officially on vacation as next week I’m taking my husband of nearly 25 years on the trip he’s always promised me, to see where I grew up and meet the people who are important to me from my younger years on their turf. It’s a crazy nostalgia trip. I’m hoping it will help him to understand how I came to be me, in a culture much different from his Minnesota farm boy roots. Not better, just different. Long Island New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire, here we come!
  • Guess who I get to meet while we’re there? Sandy!
  • You know how much I hate the use of gratuitous exclamation points. I’ve been known to suggest, ever so kindly to people at work, to read over their piece using the word "wow" at every exclamation point. Well I really meant it – East Coast – Wow! Sandy – Wow!
  • I am bridge phobic. There, I’ve admitted it in public. The tragedy in Minneapolis, in Chuck’s home state, has reinforced this. Next week will bring the George Washington Bridge, a big one, as I remember, and the Throg’s Neck, an exceedingly skinny one with lots of traffic. Just preparing myself.
  • Here’s the knitting I’m toting along – good ole Print O’the Wave, almost half way done:

See you in three weeks. That’s one of the nice things about getting older, adult kids and their friends to keep the house, boy and dog in order while you’re away!

You’re coming to my neck of the woods! WOW! Seriously, if you get near Southeastern Mass, give me a yell.

And RI is right near southeastern MA – just in case someone is thinking blogger meetup…
It is definitely an advantage to be able to take off with adult kids on patrol at home. Have a wonderful time. (It’s tough leaving out those gratuitous !’s)

I am glad I am not the only one! Hubster laughs at my phobia. And I get to cross a big one on the way to Chicago. Maybe I should find the smallest point of the Wabash to cross?

Have a great time! New England is my old stomping grounds too. I lived for many years in Rhode Island and that’s where hubby and I got married. I’m with you on the bridges. Yesterday I had to go across Deception Pass Bridge. Definitely made me a little queasy.

Oh and on the bridges, I’ve taken to rolling my window down about 3 inches every time I cross a body of water. That way if something happens, I can either push the window down or break it out easier. I know paranoid, but well, my sister taught me well.

    Vacation! Lucky you!
I’m bridge-phobic as well, to the point where I cannot watch or listen to the news right now as I break out in a sweat. I have to cross two rivers to visit my parents who are 6 hours (and no airport or train) away, and it’s all I can do to get there since DH can’t get off work to drive over the bridges. At one point it was so bad that I couldn’t go at all. To get over the last bridge on the way back home, DH has to meet me and lead me over – I can’t do it otherwise, and even then it’s still very difficult. 😦
Some of the bridges on the East Coast do have people assigned to drive phobics over, so that’s something you can check into. There is a Google group for bridge-phobics as well, but it’s usually pretty quiet.

Have a nice and safe trip. I know I took Gracee’s side, but I didn’t know about the hearing aid at the time. Sorry.

Oh no. I thought that suicidal little accidents would stop after boys reach a certain age (learn to speak? Well, since mine are 18 months and 2.5 years, I’m having high hopes of actual, understandable speaking). Now I’m once again wondering how any of them reach adulthood alive.

Enjoy your trip to New England. I took my husband on a trip to see where I spent my childhood when we first met and it gave him a whole new perspective. I’ll miss your blog but will look forward to lots of pictures when you get back.

Have a wonderful trip. Sounds like it will be an eye opening experience for the hubby. I have had to reassure my 5yo ds and 7yo dd that the Kennedy Bridge is not going to fall. Kinda hard to do when I am worried about the same thing.
