Life's a Stitch

And more recently life’s a creative adventure with some travel thrown in.

Another lesson in "when spell check doesn’t work." I am employed in the field of nonprofit social services. A newer to the field co-worker came into my office and asked me which is the correct term – nonprofit or not-for-profit. I typed in both to see which would look better in her grant application and accidentally came up with a new fund raising idea "pot-for-profit." Don’t ask me where that came from the "p" is nowhere near the "n" on the keyboard.

Must have been that Eric Clapton concert again. I was talking to another co-worker who was at the same event. The people sitting next to her were a couple with their 10 or 11 year old son. The entire concert, the mom and dad were smoking pot. The times, they are a changing. Wrong show. I was at that one, too and the air was thick with purple haze. It was very interesting, the average age at the Clapton concert was over 50.

Img_1016_2Here is my completed Irish Hiking Scarf, the one that was almost abducted while we attended the concert. It’s made with Elsebeth Lavold Angora in Aubergine. The longer you fiddle with this yarn, the softer it gets. An aran weight, it’s a quick knit. Elann has it reasonably priced and I bought enough for a sweater. I’m looking for a shawl collared cable design like this one at Patternworks, but they charge $9 to mail to Canada. I’ve got plenty of time, I still have to finish Marina. I’m now onto the sleeves so it shouldn’t be too many more years.

Wow. I wouldn’t have thought that scarf would look good in a fuzzy yarn, but yours is beautiful!

Your scarf looks SO pretty on the yellowbells!!! I have made this scarf with Cascade 220 and I liked it but it was a bit too “stiff”……I have never seen the yarn that you used but as luck would have it I am going on a trip tomorrow and will be looking for this yarn!!

Maybe it’s safer to stick to outdoor events – better air circulation.
Your scarf is beautiful – I’m trying to decide a pattern for my International Scarf Exchange pal and maybe I should give the Irish Hiking scarf another look.

Elizabeth Zimmerman has a Shawl collared vest that is similar to that jacket? Might that help?

We went to see Rod Stewart a few nights ago–also an over-50 crowd, and lots of purple haze. If you ever get that pot-for-profit grant, let me know!

The scarf looks beautiful in this yarn and color. I made one for my sister in Malabrigo.
I also like the pattern of the Herringbone Rib scarf !
Is it possible to send me a copy of the pattern ?
Best wishes from the Netherlands !

    Hi Li,
I love the scarf. That Elspeth Lavold Angora is dreamy. I managed to avoid it at elann but thought long and hard about it. Rabbits sometimes give me the sneezles. Hmmm Pot-for-profit has a nice ring to it. 🙂
Been sooooo busy and involved with the dyeing project, but it’s going really well, and I’m starting to knit again.
Your big trip sounded like it was full of delights.

Beautiful scarf! Love the flowers, ours are not blooming yet & we are south of you;).
The eggplant color is lovely, isn’t the IH scarf a fun easy knit.
I an thinking of knitting your Herringbone rib for my pal on the International Scarf Exchange, just can’t find the right color as she likes muted colors and I like brights…I’ll keep you posted as it comes along ( now , if only I can stop crocheting that ripple for awhile–very addictive ).
